My husband and I have been married for almost 14 years! Whoa! Where has the time gone?!

When we were engaged, I was so excited to get married. I devoured books on marriage. But then we had a honeymoon baby and if I ever actually sat down to read a book, it was either about parenthood or homeschooling. Thankfully, last year my husband and I took time to read through some books together to enrich our marriage. Here are three books that I recommend. I do not agree with everything in these books, but I think in general, a lot of what these authors had to say was very good.

  1. Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus (John Gray)- We had friends recommend this book a few years ago and they claimed that it saved them from divorce in their 2nd year of marriage. I was always skeptical to read it because it is a secular book, but I have to say, this book is awesome and has some majorly profound insights. My husband and I love it! It gave us a deeper understanding of one another and language to describe different patterns that we have personally experienced or seen in each other. This is a seriously amazing book.

  2. Sheet Music (Kevin Leman)-This book is written by a psychologist who is a believer. It is a book about sex and how to keep sexual intimacy alive in your marriage. It is a good read regardless of how many years you have been married!

  3. Intimate Issues (Linda Dillow and Lorraine Pintus)- This book is also about sex in marriage, but it is for women, written by believing women. Husbands can read it as well, to get a better understanding of different things your wife may be dealing with. It is really helpful to gain a biblical perspective on sexuality, while giving you very practical tips if you are struggling in specific areas (like past sin, past abuse, attraction to someone other than your spouse, etc.).

Marriage, like anything worthwhile, needs to be cultivated. Let's not take our spouse for granted and recommit to investing in our marriage this day and every day!
